FOG (2024)
Embrace your inner child to defeat your shadows
A film by Tim de Vries & Ties Versteegh
This poetic ultra-short film is inspired on the song “Fog (again) Live” by Radiohead.
‘When I was around 20 years old, this song captivated me and its melodies created vivid images in my mind. I found myself immersed in a haunting vision: a young boy sprinting through an endless tunnel, his footsteps splashing in the water and echoing against the cold walls. Close behind him, children of his own age pursued, hurling rocks in a relentless chase. As the tunnel stretched on, it culminated in a deep waterfall cascading into a sky so luminous it was almost blinding.
For many years, this imagery lingered with me. I felt a compelling urge to translate this vision into film, but first, I needed to decipher the story it was trying to tell me. In 2023, I penned down the narrative. Together with Tim de Vries, finally the film was created. It’s been the most personal project of my life so far in which my passion for music and film comes together.
I am immensely proud of this project and deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this film a reality. My hope is that this film serves as a catalyst, sparking introspection and dialogue within anyone who sees it. Is there a conversation you need to have with your younger self to make peace with your past? Perhaps there’s a lingering wound in need of healing, or a voice within you that’s yearning to be heard? Face your younger self; it’s like your best friend paving the way to a future lived side by side in harmony. Along the way I learned: it’s never too late to embrace your inner child and defeat your shadows.’
